Mia Montessori Academy provides an authentic Montessori education and is a Recognized School, accredited by AMI Canada. It is the only school in Western Canada accredited for children aged 2.5-12 years of age.
Our school is located in the historic Steveston neighbourhood of Richmond, British Columbia. The building is adjacent to the waterfront of the Fraser River Estuary and features a wide variety of wildlife that can be observed from the building and in the outdoor space, making it an ideal outdoor environment for children to explore and play. Steveston is known for its village-like atmosphere, historic sites, and proximity to the Fraser River.
The Role
We are seeking a caring, collaborative, and enthusiastic Montessori Teaching Assistant to support our Elementary classroom serving children ages 6–12. The ideal candidate is passionate about child-centered education, respectful communication, and fostering independence within a peaceful and engaging learning environment.
The Teaching Assistant works closely with the Lead Guide to support the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of the children while helping maintain the beauty, order, and flow of the Montessori classroom community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Guide in preparing and maintaining a calm, organized, and engaging Montessori environment
- Assist children with daily routines while encouraging independence, responsibility, and self-confidence
- Observe and support students respectfully, following the child’s individual developmental needs
- Help supervise classroom activities, outdoor play, lunch, transitions, and field trips
- Support small group activities and classroom materials as directed by the Lead Guide
- Model grace, courtesy, and peaceful conflict resolution
- Help maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and care of Montessori materials
- Foster a warm, respectful, and inclusive classroom community
- Communicate professionally and positively with staff and families
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events as required
Qualifications
- Experience working with children ages 6–12 preferred

Montessori training or experience preferred
- Warm, patient, collaborative, and dependable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work calmly and respectfully within a dynamic classroom environment
- Commitment to Montessori values and child-centered education
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Background check/vulnerable sector screening as required
