The role of the Montessori Guide is to uphold AMI standards and ‘lead’ by example by consistently modeling professional leadership, management and instructions skills while interacting with others. The Guide will also make sure that the classroom is clean and materials are appropriate and easily accessible. You will be responsible for creating a learning environment, empower children to discover their strengths, establish trust and to serve as a role model. The Montessori Guide determines what each child needs through careful observation.



  • Establish the morning and extended day work period and give lessons as needed
  • Maintain classroom true to the Montessori philosophy, paying particular attention to the needs of children
  • Plan, prepare and maintain all units of study by following the child and include Montessori materials, activities, units and resources
  • Understand and commit to the development and maintenance of extra-curricular activities
  • Practice effective counseling and advising of students and parents while fostering a safe learning environment
  • Emphasize student’s achievements and create an environment that nurtures and promotes children’s development and well being
  • Ensure all environments are maintained safely, in an organized manner, and beautifully to meet high quality standards


  • Develop and maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders – parents, children, teachers, and supporting staff
  • Support a qualified team of Montessori educators to fulfill our mission
  • Network with local community members to promote the school’s presence and significance
  • Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and Grace and Courtesy lessons
  • Communicate with parents about their children’s progress
  • Prepare for parent observation and conference days
  • Schedule and work with team for any joint Parent Nights, programs/performances, etc

Record keeping

  • Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student’s individual progression through the classroom
  • Maintain the school’s system of record keeping (Transparent Classroom)
  • Complete individual learning plans and conference forms for all students


  • Establish a harmonious relationship with assistants and support staff
  • Conduct weekly team huddles to discuss children’s progress and plan classroom materials and activities
  • A critical thinker who is able to inspire and motivate
  • Knowledge and experience in effective communication protocols
  • Excellent, reflective listener
  • Able to create a plan and provide focus, but remain flexible
  • Able and willing to work hours beyond the required work day when needed Administration
  • Serve as the liaison for the classroom in paying particular attention in ensuring that GHM policies on safety, school licensing requirements, staffing minimums, and policies are adhered to, including completing a monthly health and safety checklist
  • Plan, prepare, and organize all materials for parent volunteers (if applicable)
  • Assist in the planning and maintenance of the building, materials and playground to ensure they are clean, safe and maintained
  • Report any maintenance issues to the Program Manager and Administrator
  • Care for all classroom materials and plants
  • Organize planning time for changing out material, cleaning and reorganizing work
  • Continually seek ways to manage and reduce expenses without sacrificing quality or service; balances priorities related to financial responsibility


  • Diploma from the Association Montessori International
  • Early Childhood Education Certification
  • 3-5 years experience in the field
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Satisfactory criminal records check
