| A small group of committed families in Kerikeri, Northland, is establishing an authentic AMI Montessori primary micro-school for children aged 6–9. We are looking for a qualified, experienced guide who wants to be part of building something real from the ground up — where the pedagogy is fully respected and the children come first. |
School overview
- Mixed-age group, ages 6–9 years
- 4 days per week (Monday–Thursday, 9am–3pm), including one Nature Day outdoors
- Hosted at the Ōkaihau Whānau House, a registered charitable trust in Ōkaihau, Northland
- Existing Montessori preschool in Kerikeri provides a strong local Montessori foundation
- Plan to transition to a registered charter school in 2027
- Newly qualifying candidates are welcome
- International applicants are welcome — New Zealand has clear visa pathways for overseas teachers
Candidate profile
- AMI 6–12 diploma (essential)
- Experience with mixed-age primary groups
- Genuinely committed to authentic Montessori practice
- Self-starter, comfortable in a start-up environment
- Open to relocating to New Zealand
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a rich, authentic Montessori environment
- Guide individualized learning for each child within the 6–9 cycle
- Collaborate with families and the coordinating parent group
- Contribute to building the culture and structure of the school from the ground up
Visa information for international applicants
| New Zealand has a teacher shortage and actively supports overseas teacher registration. Australian citizens do not require a visa. UK citizens benefit from a 36-month working holiday visa. Canadian citizens benefit from a 23-month working holiday visa. All nationalities may also apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa with a job offer. |
